New Media Capstone

NMIX 4410

“New Media Capstone students work together to build a new media solution that addresses a specific client problem. Students call upon all of the skills gained throughout their certificate journey to develop, design, and debut these projects at the end of the semester.” – New Media Institute

The capstone course has taught me numerous skills to further my career as a software developer like working effectively with clients and my peers. At the start of the semester, my group was given the task to develop a native MacOS app. We decided to build an app for students to aid their studying, specifically in the digital flashcard realm, and we call it Blitz. As Chief Technology Officer of the group, my primary role was to oversee all aspects of technology as it related to the research, development, and deployment of our MacOS application and to effectively communicate all technology requirements and limitations for MacOS app deployment in SwiftUI. Along the way, I was able to utilize my SwiftUI skills I picked up from my New Media Production course to build it. I am proud of our app and our brand, and I cannot thank my group and my instructors enough for the amazing work they put in along the way. Be sure to check out our website and the app on the Mac App Store!

Projects

Beta

This was our app in its beta. It proved a working concept of using Apple's Live Text API to pull in text from images. Additionally, the beta had a working demo of swiping a flashcard left and right to dismiss it and reveal the next one.

1.0

This was the app in its 1.0 form. It was a serious overhaul from the beta and boasted the ability to create decks and study them in three different ways.

1.1

The 1.1 came with the ability to save any created decks to user storage so they would not be deleted upon closing the app, and more polished views.

Final

This is our app in its final state. Changes from the 1.1 include enhanced navigation throughout the app, our brand's colors applied throughout the app, and, in my opinion the best part, being live in the MacOS App Store.
